The Best Times for Annapurna Circuit and Thorang-La Pass Trekking are spring and autumn seasons. Where most days are clear and fine with sunny days, expect snowfall sometimes above 2,500 m high.

However, the best time is spring of March to May, when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom. Especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors, from tall trees to bushes. Springtime has longer sunny days but can get overcast in the late afternoon sometimes. Cold morning, evening, and nighttime with chances of snowfall around 2,500 meters high.

Annapurna Circuit and Thorang-La Pass Trekking begins with an exciting overland journey from Kathmandu. To reach Nepal Mid-West around Lamjung and Manang districts, to start our adventurous walks towards higher Manang Valley.

The walk commences from the lovely mountain village at Dharapani and then towards the cooler climate. The trail follows into a serene forest of tall rhododendrons and pine trees. Walk leads through traditional farm villages of Bagarchap and Danaque, steeped with strong Buddhist cultures of Tibetan heritage. The trail meanders to reach a higher zone following the Masrsyangdi River upstream near the glacial source around scenic Manang Valley.

After trekking through Chame Town and Pisang Village, enter the picturesque valley at Manang. An enjoyable free day at Manang village,

a perfect height for acclimatization. As well as exploring its scenic viewpoints in harmony with the immense cultures of the Manang villagers.

After a pleasant time in Manang, the adventure leads toward the end of the valley at Thorang Phedi and High Camp. An early morning leads to a steep climb on the undulating path to reach Thorang-La Pass. 

At the highest point of the adventure, the pass forms the boundary of the Manang and Mustang districts. The effort of climbing to Thorang-La Pass rewards you with a breathtaking panorama of surrounding giant peaks. Exciting views of the Annapurna Himalayan range with Damodar Himal, Chulus, and Pisang Peak, as far as Manaslu and Dhaulagiri Himal. After a fabulous moment on top of Thorang-La, a long descent to Muktinath around Mustang areas. Muktinath is a holy temple, a pilgrimage site for Hindu pilgrims, and a scenic spot to enjoy overnight. 

From Muktinath, skipping a few days of trekking. Enjoy an exciting drive on a 4WD Jeep heading towards lower warm areas at Tatopani village. Drive leads around Kaligandaki River Valley past Jomsom Town and the lovely villages of Marpha and Tukuche. The drive ends on reaching Tatopani to enjoy a refreshing dip in its natural hot spring pools. After Tatopani, back on the trekking trail with a long climb to Ghorepani village within a cooler climate. 

Next early morning, a short hike up to Poon Hill to catch stunning sunrise with a chain of Himalayan peaks. Including the world’s three highest mountain ranges Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu Himalayas with majestic Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish-Tail Peak. From Poon Hill with refreshing morning and brilliant views of sunrise and the Himalayan range of peaks. 

The adventure slowly ends on reaching the lower warm areas with a scenic drive to beautiful Pokhara. Charming city Pokhara, with lovely lakes and views of the Annapurna Himalayas. At Pokhara, our wonderful adventure of great experience on Annapurna Circuit and Thorang-La Pass Trekking concludes.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kathmandu / Nepal international airport received by our staff and guide. Get transferred to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city, after checking in lovely rooms. Having time to get refreshed then join with other members for briefing, provided by our guide. The briefing includes information of the hotels, Kathmandu city tour and details on trekking. Evening a warm welcome dinner in a nice authentic Nepali Restaurants with cultural programs along with dinner.

A leisure morning having breakfast our city and cultural guide picks you for an exciting sightseeing tour. The tour of Kathmandu and Nepal’s Heritage Sites of cultural and historical interest. Rest of the afternoon free preparation for
Annapurna Circuit & Thorang-La Pass Trekking.

Morning after breakfast, depart for the adventure Annapurna Circuit & Thorang-
La Pass Trek. A drive to cover 176 km or 109 miles to Bhesishar Town from
Kathmandu. An exciting overland journey following the main Kathmandu and
Pokhara Highway for few hours. Then our route diverts from Dumre Town
heading north to Bhesishar, the headquarters town of Lamjung District.
On arrival transfer into a nice hotel or lodge, having time to browse around
the market of Bhesishar. Observe the local native of Mid-West Nepal cultures
and traditions of both Hindu and Buddhism religions.

From Bhesishar after a refreshing stop, morning another short exciting drive to reach Manang district in Dharapani Village. The morning drive follows the Masrsyangdi River to reach Syange village. Then the road winds up to Jagat village to reach Chamje and Tal villages to enter the district of Manang. Then finally the drive ends reaching Dharapani village for overnight stop in the comfort of a nice lodge. The air gets cooler from Dharapani village onwards, located on junction of
Annapurna and Manaslu Circuit route.

Our adventurous walks starts from Dharapani heading higher region of Manang areas on the northern sides of Annapurna Himalayas. The walk follows on winding path within rhododendron and pine forest to Bagarchap and Danaque villages.
Then a steep climb for an hour to Timang a large mountain village.
From here onwards with strong Buddhist religion and culture with views of
Mt. Manaslu and Lamjung Himal. Stopping in Timang village for lunch, afternoon
few hours’ walk to Koto village. After a short rest, less than hour climb on gradual
uphill to overnight stop in Chame. The headquarters town of Manang district with many good lodges with views of Lamjung Himal towards south.

Morning from Chame Town, adventure continues getting closer towards mountainous region, as walk follows through pine and rhododendron tree lines. On reaching a small village of Bhratang, then climb after crossing a bridge above Masrsyangdi River. Reaching on top in a small place called Dukure Pokhari for lunch stop. A lovely view of Pisang Peak and Annapurna II and IV, after lunch downhill to enter Manang Valley at Pisang Village. Overnight in a nice simple lodge with grand views of surrounding snow-capped peaks.

After breakfast walk leads into dense tree lines with short climb to a high ridge.
From the top grand views of Annapurna II, III, Gangapurna Himal with Chulu’s and Pisang peak. The trail follows down to Hongde village, entering into barren and arid landscapes, reaching Braga village with an old monastery.
Having time for short visit of the old Braga Monastery enriched with Buddhist relics. The interior festooned with idols of the famous saints and Gurus with statues of Buddha. From here a short walk to Manang village. An interesting village, where houses built in a traditional Tibetan style and Manang people are known for rich heritage culture and traditions.

A necessary rest day for acclimatization before heading higher elevation, towards high Thorang-La Pass. Various viewpoints to explore around Manang village, the best and short is hike for few hours to Gangapurna Himal Icefall.
Walk down to the river, after the bridge a short climb to the viewpoint and enjoy
the dramatic scenery. Overlooking Gangapurna massif Icefall and glaciers with views of Annapurna II, III with Manang small Glacial Lake.
The other places to visit is Ice Lake north east of Manang Village, takes nearly 6 hours walks both ways.

After pleasant rest day in Manang, morning walk follows on gradual path to Ghunsang village. Then on winding uphill to reach Yak Kharka, an interesting high altitude walks with views of Chulu West Peak. Then cross a small stream to reach Yak Kharka, a small settlement with several good lodges. At Yak Kharka for lunch and overnight halt. Enjoy the afternoon with short walks with tremendous views of Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Chulu Peaks.

Morning heading high area, to the base of Thorang-la after a climb along the river bank, walk leads at Thorang Phedi, from here an hour of steep climb reaches at Thorang High Camp for lunch and overnight stop. Afternoon relax and take a rest saving energy for the climb to the top of Thorang-La Pass.

The main highlight of the adventure, having an early breakfast carrying a packed lunch for the long tough day. Start the morning at the break of dawn following an undulating uphill path to reach on top Thorang-La. The Pass is adorned with a board with the name of the pass and exact height. Includes hundreds of colorful Buddhist prayer flags, enjoy the alluring panorama of surrounding giant peaks.
From the highest point of the adventure facing views of Chulu’s, Annapurna’s with Damodar Himal with Dhaulagiri Himal. As far as Manaslu range towards east, then a long downhill to reach the bottom of Thorang-La around Mustang district.

From the western base of Thorang-La, a gradual walk to Muktinath for overnight stop. A holy pilgrimage sites for Hindus followers, the word Muktinath literally means ‘a place for Nirvana or Liberation’.

At Muktinath, having time to visit the Muktinath Temple premises and its wonderful 108 water spouts. After breakfast taking a break from the walks, for the day scenic drive to Tatopani Village. Board on 4WD Jeep or similar an exciting journey downhill with a drop of 1,200 m to Kaligandaki River Valley.
The drive leads to Jomsom, headquarters of Mustang with a small airstrip above the Kaligandaki River. From Jomsom journey continues heading down past lovely villages of Marpha and Tukuche. Then reaching back into tree line of pines, oaks and rhododendron around Kalapani village. Facing grand views of Dhaulagiri Icefall with Tukuche and Nilgiri’s peaks. After a short stop head down to Lete Village with superb views of Mt. Annapurna-I, Nilgiri’s and Dhaulagiri.
Then following the river to Tatopani Village, after driving through the world deepest gorge of Kaligandaki River. At Tatopani (Hot Spring) village of sub-tropical climate check into a nice lodge. After lunch enjoy refreshing dip in the hot spring pools, located at the bank of Kaligandaki River.

From Tatopani, our walk continues after a good breakfast, following the river and then after crossing the bridge above Kaligandaki River. Our route diverts heading uphill towards terraced hillside, with nice farm villages, after a steep climb.
Rest of walk is enjoyable with gradual ups to Sikha and Chitre Villages, then last steep climb of the day to reach Ghorepani village. Situated amidst forest at the bottom of Poon Hill famous viewpoints for sunrise and panorama of Himalayan peaks.

Morning an hour hike to Poon Hill reaching on time for stunning sunrise views over chain of mountains. Includes world’s three highest peaks of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu Himal. As well as views of majestic Mt. Machhapuchare “The Fish Tail”, after a wonderful time at Poon Hill. Walk down to Ghorepani for breakfast and enjoy the last day walk of the adventures. The trail follows through beautiful rhododendron forested gradual path. Then a long descend after Ulleri village to reach Thirkhedhunga with beautiful waterfalls. From here a short descend to Hille farm village for last overnight stop around the hills of Annapurna Himalaya.

Completing the adventurous Annapurna Circuit Trek, morning after breakfast get board in local jeep. The drive follows through farm terraces, within warmer areas to reach Nayapul Town. On the main road of Beni, Baglung and Pokhara Highway.
From here a few hour drives to scenic Pokhara, on arrival transfer into a nice hotel by beautiful Phewa Lake. Afternoon enjoy the walk around the Lakeside street lined with shops, stores and fancy restaurants.

Himalayan Snow reserves a free day in Pokhara, a perfect and beautiful place to
enjoy a leisure and relaxing day. Pokhara is famous and popular for various
adventure sports, like Paragliding, Zip-Line and Bungee Jumping.
Interest people can request for the adventure sports with Himalayan Snow to
enjoy grand thrills for an hour. Rest of the day enjoy the individual activities or
book for a tour around Pokhara’s natural wonderful sites.

Morning in Pokhara at leisure enjoy short tour around Pokhara’s natural wonders,
of waterfalls, deep caves along with views. Afternoon transfer to Pokhara airport
for short scenic flight to Kathmandu, during air enjoy grand views of Himalayan
peaks. On reaching Kathmandu airport transfer to your respective hotels, rest of
the day at leisure.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, after a great and wonderful experience on Annapurna Circuit & Thorang-La Pass Trekking. As time for your international flight transfer to Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport. Then bidding farewell to guide, staff and the Nepal Himalayas. As you step into air terminal for homeward bound or to respective countries.

FAQs

Is Annapurna Circuit a difficult trek?

Not at all, it is one of best adventure around the Himalayas.
The walk is not so tough and difficult, it just for a day with long climb. The walk starts from the mid-hills to reach high Manang Valley enclosed by towering snow peaks of Chulu’s and Annapurna range. The walk is on gradual up, the dry air and rise in altitude makes the trek slow. Taking rest and enjoying the views will overcome the difficulties of steep climbing.

Does the motorable road disturbs the walks on Annapurna Circuit?

It does not affect the trek overall, as we use the old route to avoid much of motorable road as possible. It is not like other major highway with huge traffic of vehicle, only few numbers of four-wheel drive runs on the mountain road, so, it has less effect on this trek.

How cold can it get around Manang valley and at Thorang-La Pass?

As per the season, normally morning and late afternoon till night time it gets much cold, including on shady places away from sun-lights.

On peak times from March to May, the weather is fine and clear with sunny day, maximum temperatures of + 20 to + 25 degrees Celsius, minimum of – 5 to – 10 degrees Celsius, especially from Manang village till Thorang-La Pass. Where wind-chill factor adds more cold.

In autumn / fall which is one of the best and high season, + 16 to + 20 degrees Celsius, minimum of – 10 to – 15 degree Celsius, especially from Manang village till Thorang-La Pass. Where wind-chill factor adds extra cold.     

However, walking keeps you warm as well inside the cozy lodge, after ending a nice scenic trek of the day.

Is Annapurna Circuit a popular trek around the Himalayas?

Yes, it is one of the most popular and most scenic adventure destination in the whole Himalayas. Trekkers will experience varied change of landscape, climate, vegetation and cultural diversity. One of the most beautiful long distance trek with magnificent landscapes scenery and local impressive Buddhist culture. 

What happens if someone is sick on trek?

The only major problem trekkers can find is altitude sickness or AMS
(Acute Mountain Sickness).  However, some trekkers can get sick like diarrhea and from high altitude walks for normal symptoms rest for few days till the victims recover and is able to continue walk.

But on severe and serious situation, the only way of fast and immediate or emergency evacuation by helicopter service to reach nearest hospital and medical care. On this emergency case where victims have to borne all the expenses to be claimed from your health and medical insurance.

What are the religion and culture to expect on this trek?

Lower area on the beginning of trek, where you can witness mixed religion of Hindu and Buddhist cultures. As walk takes you higher into Manang valley with more strong Buddhist religion, of interesting age-old culture encountering prayer monument along the walks around villages.
