Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass is an adventure around both sides of Khumbu Valley. Trekking towards the picturesque destinations within major highlights around the Khumbu and Everest region. The first phase of the adventure leads on the main trails from Lukla to the famed Namche Bazaar. 

 The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and the lovely Sherpa village steeped with traditional cultures. As well as entering the world heritage sites, the Sagarmatha National Park is enriched with the famous mountains. Like Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam include an array of stunning peaks. 

From the park on the winding uphill to Namche Bazaar, a fascinating place to enjoy an extra day for acclimatization. Spending a pleasant and exciting time in Namche Bazaar, the capital of Khumbu Villagers.

An ever-exciting and big day of the adventure, climb over a moraine of rocks to the top of Cho-La Pass. Enjoy the fantastic views after a tough haul to Cho-La Pass, facing a close look of Cholatse. Includes Lobuche with Nirekha peaks, enjoying the dramatic scenic steep descent to the eastern base at Dzongla. From Dzongla, the walk leads to join the main trail towards Everest Base Camp, with a stopover in Lobuche. The walk then heads across a glacial moraine of rocks and boulders above Khumbu Glacier to Gorakshep. The last temporary settlement en route to Everest base camp, the walk follows east with stunning scenery of giant peaks. The walk finally reaches beneath the towering mountain range of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse at Everest base camp. Stand amidst remorseless fields of ice and glaciers with a dramatic scenery similar to arctic landscapes. 

After completing the main highlights and targets of the journey, the last final adventure takes you to the highest point. On top of Kalapathar rocky hill ridge,
a popular viewpoint for the closest look at Everest and Mt. Pumori.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kathmandu / Nepal international airport received by our staff and guide. Get transferred to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city, after checking in lovely rooms. Having time to get refreshed then join with other members for briefing, provided by our guide. The briefing includes information of the hotels, Kathmandu city tour and details on trekking. Evening a warm welcome dinner in a nice authentic Nepali Restaurants with cultural programs along with dinner.

A leisure morning having breakfast our city and cultural guide picks you for an exciting sightseeing tour. The tour of Kathmandu and Nepal’s Heritage Sites of cultural and historical interest. Rest of the afternoon preparation for Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp Trekking.

As time for flight to Lukla transfer to Kathmandu domestic air terminal for panoramic short flight to Lukla. Flying in a small aircraft Dornier, Twin Otter or similar. On flight enjoy panorama of Himalayan peaks with Mt. Everest, and then landing at Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport. Our trekking staff and porters, receives you, and then start the trek to Phakding for overnight stop. The walk follows through several wonderful villages with fabulous scenery of hills and valleys, then reach Phakding village for night halt.

From Phakding village towards Namche Bazaar via Sagarmatha National Park.
Morning walk leads on pleasant trail with few short down and ups crossing bridges to reach Monjo. The walk continues to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. As walk leads to cross another bridge to Jorsalle for lunch stop before the climb to Namche Bazaar. Afternoon walks along the river bank amidst forest of tall rhododendrons and pines trees. A short climb to the last bridge, and then uphill all the way to Namche Bazaar. At Namche check into nice lodge with views of Kongde peaks. Namche Bazaar for two over nights, a prosperous trading town and a large town-village, the hub of Khumbu. Where once a week on Saturday a busy colorful market head, hence the name Namche Bazaar.

At Namche Bazaar spend extra day for acclimatization, morning take a short hike up to the park museum. An interesting place to gather information on mountaineering, flora, fauna and Sherpa cultures. From this scenic spot enjoy grand vista of Mt. Everest, Ama-Dablam with series of adjoining snow peaks.

On rest day another options for hike to Everest View Hotel for beautiful views of snow mountains and Everest. A climb of few hours to an old Syangboche airstrip and then gradual up to Everest View Hotel. Listed as world’s highest hotel at above 3,900 m high.

After an enjoyable rest in Namche Bazaar for two overnights, after breakfast a
short above Namche Bazaar. Then on scenic road to Gokyo Valley, facing grand
vista of towering peaks with Everest and Ama Dablam. Soon our route diverts
from the main trail, with climb to high Mong ridge. Overlooking spectacular views
of the snow peaks, then short descent to Phortse Tenga, a small place with few
lodges. Located on Dudh Koshi River gorge amidst cool shade of dense tree lines,
a pleasant spot for lunch stop. Afternoon walk uphill into a narrow gorge through
dense woods of rhododendrons and pines to reach Dole for overnight halt.
Located on a small valley with several good lodges, enjoy the afternoon being
away from main busy trail.

Morning from Dole, after breakfast, a short steep climb and then enjoy the
pleasant walk. After reaching an open exposed ridge, the trail follows along a
ridge line past a nice place of Luza. As walk slowly nears closer to our overnight
destination at Machermo. Before heading down enjoy the superb views of
Mt. Cho Oyu, straddles the border between Nepal and Tibet. It is the 6th worlds
Highest peak. After enjoying the grand views, descend down to a river gorge
covered in the shade of Populous and Willow trees. A short climb brings you to
Machermo for lunch and overnight stop, enjoying the short pleasant day.
Afternoon relax or takes a short hike around for better acclimatization with
views of Machermo Peak towards west.

An exciting today to reach the main destination to Gokyo Valley, as well as a
short morning walks. From the lodge of Machermo, climb up for short while to
reach on top of a wide ridge. At above Dudh Koshi River, the walk follows along
gradual path. Facing tremendous views of the surrounding towering rocky cliffs
and snow peaks. After a short hour reaching a small settlement at Panga, then
down towards an ablation valley. The trail then follows up reaching the Gokyo
Valley, coming across the first lake, and then second lake. Slowly the walk ends
reaching the third main lakes of Gokyo, where all good lodge located.
Above the lake which is called as Dudh Pokhari, where the name Dudh Koshi
River comes from. Which means, a milky lake or river as it remains frozen with
chalky white color most of the year. The lakes and rivers is from the source of a
nearby Ngozumpa, the longest glacier around the Himalayas.
At Gokyo transfer for lunch and overnight, facing views of Mt. Cho Oyo and
Gyachung Kang peak. Afternoon enjoy leisure, relaxing day with glorious
surrounding scenery of giant snow-capped peaks.

Rising up early before break of dawn. For exciting steep climb of few hours to the
top of Gokyo-Ri. One of the highest point of the adventure before Cho-La Pass
and Kalapathar hill. From the ridge top enjoy the magnificent views of sunrise, as
it reflects on the world’s highest peaks. Namely Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and
Mt. Makalu the world’s four highest at a glance. The panoramic views of Gokyo
Valley and the lakes with the Himalayas longest Ngozumpa Glacier.
After a refreshing morning hike with tremendous scenery walk down to Gokyo for
breakfast and lunch. Afternoon enjoy a pleasant walk to Thagnak, a small
settlement, located at the base of Cho-La Pass. On reaching Thagnak transfer to
a nice simple lodge accommodation. Rest of the afternoon preparation for early
morning climb to cross over high Cho-La Pass.

Adventure to cross Cho-La Pass, starting early morning before dawn the walk follows up over rocky moraine. As the climb gets steep and strenuous for few hours, taking short break. Then finally reach on top of Cho-La Pass, actually it is pronounced ‘Tsho-La’, means a pond. Which is a small glacial pond close to Cholatse peak near on top of the pass. The pass is hidden between towering Cholatse, Nirekha and Taboche peaks. Enjoy the sweeping panorama of arrays of snow clad peaks. From Cho-La Pass descend with care to reach the bottom and then on gradual path to Dzongla for overnight halt. A small settlement hidden in
corner above Pheriche Valley and Thugla with grand views of Cholatse peak.

From Dzongla after the tough day climb to Cho-La Pass and long descent.
Today a pleasant short hour walk to Lobuche, joining on the main trail towards Everest Base Camp. Morning after breakfast, a short steep climb to reach the main path of Pheriche and Dingboche above Thugla ridge. Then on slow winding up to Lobuche for overnight stop, before trek to Everest base camp.

The trail today is quite tough, due to rise in altitude. But enjoyable walks facing with tremendous views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest.
After few hours of walks high above Khumbu glacier, then short down to Gorakshep. A small settlement on glacial valley with several lodges, located beneath Kalapathar and Mt. Pumori. After a short rest, the journey continues to Everest Base Camp. The trail leads over moraine of rocks and ice to reach
Everest Base Camp our highlight destination. Enjoy the great dramatic scenery similar to arctic landscapes of ice, snow and glaciers. Standing beneath towering
Lhotse, Nuptse and Everest with massif Khumbu Ice Fall. After enjoying splendid moment, return to Gorakshep for overnight stop, after completing the major high light of the adventures.

Early morning climb leads to steep uphill to Kalapathar for fantastic close views of Mt. Everest. Includes towering surrounding peaks within near distance for
Mt. Pumori. After a refreshing morning adventure head down to Gorakshep for breakfast, then for return journey to Lukla. From Gorakshep walk down to Lobuche and further downhill to Thugla. At Thugla our route diverts south towards Pheriche valley for lunch stop. Pheriche a large settlement with number of good lodges like in Dingboche with HRA Post (Himalayan Rescue Association).
After lunch down to the river and up to a small ridge, then descending towards Pangboche Village for overnight stop.

Leaving Pangboche Village with close grand views of Ama Dablam, the down to cross the bridge. As climb leads back into dense vegetation and tall trees, after an hour or more walk up. Then reaching the beautiful spot at Tengboche and the impressive Monastery. After a short break with superb panorama of surrounding towering peaks. The trail follows down to Phunki Tenga, after the bridge a steep climb for an hour to reach Shanasha a small village. From here on easy gradual winding trail to Namche Bazaar for overnight halt.

After a nice refreshing stop for overnight in Namche Bazaar, enjoy the last day trek of the adventures. Which is quite a long hour’s walk to Lukla, the walk follows down to Dudh Kisi River Valley. As walk leads on the river bank to Jorsalle, crossing the bridge with short climb to Sagarmatha National Park. From here walk to Monjo village, and then down to cross a long suspension bridge.
The walk gets easier with few short down and ups to Phakding for lunch stop, afternoon walk on winding path. Enjoy the last final climb of less than an hour to reach Lukla for overnight stop.

As time for the flight to Kathmandu, a short walk to Lukla Tenzing and Hillary Airport. After checking in then board in a small aircraft for sweeping short scenic flight to Kathmandu. As the plane land at Katmandu transfer back to your hotels, rest of the day at leisure for individual activities.

In Kathmandu a spare/ extra day, in case of flight delay in Lukla due to bad weather conditions. On this free day, can book for another sightseeing tour around Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. Worth a visit to enjoy tour around the World Heritage Sites. Rest of the day for leisure activities and shopping souvenir of Nepal.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, after a great and wonderful experience on Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp Trekking. As time for your international flight transfer to Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport. Then bidding farewell to guide, staff and the Nepal Himalayas. How tough is Gokyo to Everest Base Camp with Cho-La Pass Trekking?

Actually it not tough or difficult, only some section with steep climb the gain in altitude makes the walk tougher. But the walking trail are straightforward to enjoy the trek along with scenic views. But must be careful being breathless on steep uphill, taking slow, having rest from being breathless. Makes the trek enjoyable all the way to Gokyo Valley of Lakes. The only hard and long climb is up to Cho-La Pass, but having frequent stops. As well moving on slowly taking care on slipper parts, will overcome the toughness of climbing. The other tough is descending from Cho-La to the bottom of the pass, heeding slowly with care on icy sections. Rest of the walk is on normal trail with ups and downhill.    

Is Gokyo to Everest Base Camp a popular route?

It is not so popular than the main straightforward route from Namche to Everest Base Camp. But for adventurous people with interest to extend their interest challenging higher and tougher treks. This is one of the perfect trip for enthusiastic people to add more exciting adventures of a lifetime experience.
But every best seasons, few groups of trekkers enjoys the adventures Gokyo to Everest base camp via Cho-La Pass. Some people reach Gokyo from the reverse routes after trekking to Everest base camp. 

What happens if someone gets sick on trek?

The only problem is if some trekkers gets critical AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Normally, trekkers are physical fit on choosing the itinerary with flexible days for acclimatization. But in case some get sick and cannot continue the trek, must be lowered down to safe altitude. Or heading back to for first early flight to Kathmandu. The other means of fastest transport for immediate evacuation is using helicopter services. On emergency situations the sick person has to borne all the expenses, to be claimed from the medical insurance.

Is there facilities to charge electronic gadgets?

Yes, every villages and overnight lodge do have facilities with electricity run by hydro or solar power. Can charge cell-phone, camera batteries and laptop.
On paying extra for charging the gadgets, on hour basis, every lodges have different rate. Higher above from Namche Bazaar onward the cost comes slightly higher than lower areas.
