The Best Time for Annapurna Base Camp & Poon Hill Trekking, are spring and autumn seasons. Interested trekkers can enjoy the walk during winter times despite the cold weather. But most days are clear and fine with sunny days expect snow sometimes above 2,500 m high.

However, the best time is spring of March to May, when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom. Especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors, from tall trees to bushes. Springtime has longer sunny days, but can get overcast in the late afternoon sometimes. Cold morning, evening, and nighttime with chances of snowfall around Ghorepani, Tadapani and en route to Annapurna Base Camp.

The next best time is autumn or fall, where most days are bright with sunshine for views and walks. Can get cloudy afternoon, with chances of snowfall sometimes around the high areas. But gets dark soon due to the autumn season, but enjoyable time for Annapurna Base Camp & Poon Hill Trekking.

Overview

Annapurna Base Camp & Poon Hill Trekking is one of the best combinations of moderate to adventurous walks. Allows trekkers to enjoy both areas of the beautiful scenic southern Annapurna green hills. 

The forest is lined with tall rhododendrons and pine trees en route to Poon Hill and Tadapani. After walking within the lush green forest, then enter the arctic zone of ice and glaciers at Annapurna Base Camp. Trekkers will be amazed at such a dramatic change of landscapes within a few days of walks. 

Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill Trekking is the most fascinating adventure to experience within less than two weeks. The first part of the walk takes you up towards Ghorepani and Poon Hill.

 After a short drive from the picturesque city of Pokhara to a rural farm village at Hille. Then heading towards Ulleri, a mountain village atop a high hill, after a few hour’s climb. The trail follows winding uphill within beautiful woods of tall rhododendrons and pine trees to reach Ghorepani. 

A scenic village situated at the base of Poon Hill, the next morning climb to
Poon Hill. Famous and popular viewpoints for striking sunrise views over arrays of Himalayan snow peaks. Facing spectacular panorama of the Mid-West Himalayas from Dhaulagiri, Annapurna to Manaslu Himalayan range. From Poon Hill, the adventure then heads towards our next final destination to Annapurna base camp. 

The trail follows up and down through a serene forested path to Chomrong, the last village en route to Annapurna Sanctuary. Where the base camp is located, the walk from Chomrong leads to a gorge following the Modi River upstream.

After a good walk of a few days from Chomrong village, then enter the most beautiful valley at the sanctuary. Enclosed by towering white giant peaks of the Annapurna Himalayan range, then reaching the highlight destination at Annapurna Base Camp. The highest point of the adventures, standing beneath the towering world’s 10th-tallest 

Mt. Annapurna-I. The Annapurna Base Camp is encircled by a group of giant peaks of massif Annapurna Himalayan range. 

Annapurna Base Camp is a great spot facing incredible views of the mountain ranges. From Annapurna Base Camp, the return walks follow the same route to Chomrong with all downhills and with few short climbs. After Chomrong, on an alternative trail to reach the road head at Jhinu Danda. 

A lovely village with natural hot springs to enjoy the last overnight on the hills of the Annapurna Himalayas. From Jhinu, a drive to Pokhara, where our marvelous adventure completes to Annapurna Base Camp & Poon Hill Trekking.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kathmandu / Nepal international airport received by our staff and guide. Get transferred to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city, after checking in lovely rooms. Having time to get refreshed then join with other members for briefing, provided by our guide. The briefing includes information of the hotels, Kathmandu city tour and details on trekking. Evening a warm welcome dinner in a nice authentic Nepali Restaurants with cultural programs along with dinner.

A leisure morning having breakfast our city and cultural guide picks you for an exciting sightseeing tour. The tour of Kathmandu and Nepal’s Heritage Sites of cultural and historical interest. Rest of the afternoon free preparation for the Annapurna Panorama Poon Hill Trekking.

Our short and exciting adventure begins taking a morning drive to Pokhara city, located Nepal Mid-West. An interesting overland journey of six hours to reach beautiful city in Pokhara and then check into a nice hotel. Pokhara a leading tourist destination in Nepal and probably in the whole Himalayas. A city full of beauty and charms with serene lakes and close views of Annapurna Himalayan range.
(Interested people can taka scenic flight of half hour to Pokhara, at extra cost depending upon the trip package price).

Morning with grand views of the Annapurna Himalayas, enjoy the breakfast,
and getting ready for the adventure to Ghorepani. The drive heads beyond
Pokhara Valley with views of majestic Annapurna peaks. An exciting drive to
Nayapul Town, where our route diverts from the main highway. Heading towards
the country rough dirt road past nice village of Bhirethati with views of waterfalls.

Slowly the drive leads to winding ups to reach a nice farm village at Hille, from
here the walk begins. With climb past Thirkhedhunga small settlement with
waterfalls, then climb up on stone steps for few hours to Ulleri. A large mountain
village for overnight in the comfort of a nice lodge, with views of Annapurna
peaks.

From Ulleri onwards to Ghorepani is a short moderate walks, after a big climb on first day. After breakfast along with the views, the trail follows on winding gradual up to Ghorepani. A lovely morning walks through beautiful woods of rhododendrons and pine trees. As walk follows to slow up to enter a nice scenic village at Ghorepani, amidst lovely woods. The highest overnight stops of the trek, in the comfort of a nice lodge facing views of Dhaulagiri Himalayan range.
At Ghorepani for lunch and overnight, enjoy the afternoon marveling the wonderful scenery of snow peaks.

Rising early morning before break of dawn to catch the sunrise from high Poon
Hill. From the lodge at Ghorepani an hour or more climb to the top of scenic
Viewpoint of Poon Hill. The highest point of the adventure at 3,210 m high,
rewards stunning sunrise over chain of Himalayan peaks. From Dhaulagiri,
Tukuche, Nilgiri’s peaks with Vara Shikar (Annapurna Fang), stretches to massive
Annapurna Himalayan range of peaks. Includes Manaslu as far as Ganesh Himal
towards east horizon with ever present majestic Machhapuchare Himal, the
famous Fish-Tail peak. After a glorious sunrise and mountain views with
refreshing morning climb, down to Ghorepani for breakfast.

The walk from Ghorepani leads up into dense forest to Deurali ridge, almost the
same height as Poon Hill. Enjoy the fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna
Himalayas, then down to a gorge to Bhanthati. A small settlement with several
lodges and restaurants, for possible lunch stop. Afternoon down to a stream, and
then climb to Tadapani for overnight halt in a nice lodge. Tadapani, situated
within dense forest surrounding with tremendous views of Annapurna Himalayas.

Rising with fabulous views of Annapurna range of peaks, after breakfast a nice
pleasant walk to Chomrong Village. The trail leads through lovely enchanting
forest on gradual gentle path, then down to a stream. After crossing the small
bridge, climb for an hour or more, then on gradual stone paved path to
Chomrong. Chomrong the last permanent Gurung village and the door to
Annapurna Sanctuary and base camp. The other places en route are temporary
settlements to cater shelter and food for the trekkers. Enjoy the comfort of a nice
good lodge accommodation with views of Annapurna peaks.

From Chomrong on the road to our destination, morning walk downhill to
Chomrong River. After the bridge a slow climb to Sinuwa Danda, a small hilltop
with some lodges and shops. After a short break, walk into forested trail lined
with rhododendrons and pine trees. An easy winding path to follow for a while
and then a short descend reaching a clearing at Bamboo. A nice spot with several
lodges, possible lunch stop, at Bamboo amidst bamboo thickets.
Located close above the Modi River, from here an hour or more with slow climb
to Dovan for overnight halt. Situated in a gorge of Modi River, a small place with
few simple good lodges.

After a pleasant overnight with the sound of a raging river flow, the walk starts
with climb into dense vegetation. Reaching an interesting overhanging large cave
of Hinku near to small place of Himali Hotel. From here a short descend close to
the bank of Modi River, then climb up to Deurali for lunch stop.
From Deurali needs to take things slowly, as the altitude gains gradually with
climb following the fast flowing Modi River. The tree lines drop, as the climb gets
steeper for some hours, then reach MBC (Machhapuchare Base Camp).
Located, right at the bottom of towering North Face of Machhapuchare Himal,
the famous Fish Tail Peak. Enjoy the surrounding views of Annapurna South,
Huin Chuli peaks with Annapurna East Face. Transfer into a nice small lodge
accommodation, after a good day of trekking.

From MBC towards our major destination to Annapurna Base Camp and into
the heart of picturesque Sanctuary. Enjoy the morning scenic views, a short walk
to ABC for lunch and overnight stay. The walk leads to short climb on a grassy
slope to enter Annapurna Sanctuary bounded by giant peaks. The walk gets easier
with gentle up then reaching Annapurna Base Camp. Located beneath the massif
peaks of Annapurna-I, Vara Shikar (Annapurna Fang) and Annapurna South.

Check into one its many nice cozy lodge to enjoy hot lunch with free afternoon to
explore the scenic surroundings. Truly an amazing place with magnificent
environment similar to arctic landscapes. Surrounded with arrays of giant peaks
of the Annapurna Himalayan range.

Morning enjoy the glory of beautiful scenery of white peaks, as far as your eyes
can reach. After breakfast a long day walk to Bamboo, enjoy the downhill
reaching back into dense tree lines. The walk is more or downhill with few short
ups to reach the overnight stand at Bamboo.

After Bamboo leaving the river gorge behind with short climb to enter the forest,
then walk to Sinuwa Danda. From here down to Chomrong River, after the bridge
a steep climb for short hour on long stone steps. Then reaching Chomrong for
good lunch, afternoon a short walk down to Jhinu-Danda, a small village with
nice lodges. After checking into the rooms, having time to enjoy a refreshing
bathe and a dip in the hot water pools. Jhinu with a natural hot spring, a perfect
place to end the treks before heading back to Pokhara.

Enjoy the last day short walk and get on board in a vehicle for exciting drive to
picturesque Pokhara. The drive follows the country dirt track to Bhirethati and
Nayapul. To join the main highway of Pokhara and Baglung, Beni, a few hours of
good ride reaches Pokhara. On arrival transfer into a nice hotel, with time to
explore the streets of lakeside lined with fancy shops and restaurants.

Morning in Pokhara at leisure enjoy short tour around Pokhara’s natural wonders,
of waterfalls, deep caves along with views. Afternoon transfer to Pokhara airport
for short scenic flight to Kathmandu, during air enjoy grand views of Himalayan
peaks. On reaching Kathmandu airport transfer to your respective hotels, rest of
the day at leisure.

In Kathmandu to enjoy a leisure day, for individual activities, and shopping
souvenirs of Nepal. Interested people can enjoy another interesting tour on
request visit to Patan and Bhaktapur cities. It is well worth visiting around its

FAQs

How are the lodge standard en route Annapurna Base Camp?

After Pokhara city in a nice hotel, with Ghandruk and Chomrong villages good

Lodge accommodation. Other place en route like Dovan, MBC, ABC and Bamboo have simple lodge, but nice and warm rooms. Having common toilets and bathrooms, with extra charge for using hot showers. Most places provide twin sharing rooms, single rooms are not available, especially in busy high seasons.

The dining rooms are large and cozy with a nice environment to enjoy the dinner and other meals.

How are the foods and clean drinking water facilities?

The foods after Pokhara, Ghandruk and Chomrong as per the menu, but not a comprehensive varieties. All lodge en route provides and serves the best from the limited food menu. The most popular around smaller places like Dovan, MBC and 

ABC to Bamboo are the Nepal famous Dhal Bhat. A boiled rice served with seasonal vegetables and lentil soup with choice of pickle and sauce to add.
Other main foods are Chinese Noodle fried with meat, eggs or vegetable, as well as Noodle Soups. Trekkers can enjoy various types of soups and snacks like fried or boiled potato. For lunch and dinner including the fried rice, some places also serves veg or meat dumpling famously known as Mo-Mo.
Various types and flavors of tea, coffee and drinking chocolates, as well as green salads. Fresh fruits where available and season wise, can buy canned mixed fruits.

Can we extend this trek to ABC few days longer?

Yes, interested people can extend the trek for few days more before or after reaching the Annapurna Base Camp. Annapurna southern hills offers various scenic destination to Landruk, Potana and Dhampus villages or Australian Camp and Mardi Himal.

Are there facilities of electricity and internets, WI-FI?

Nearly all villages and lodges, en route trekking have electricity run by Hydro or Solar Powers. Trekkers can enjoy the facilities, charging electronic items, as well with Internet and Wi-Fi services. But some smaller places like Bamboo, Dovan and MBC the internet services and WI-FI, are quite slow and disturbing.
Due to the weather and landscape wise, other places runs well with cell phone or internets.

What to expect on this trek to Annapurna Base Camp Treks?

Beautiful scenery of dramatic landscapes with snow-capped mountain range, walking into lovely forest. As well as enjoying striking scenery from Annapurna Sanctuary and base camp. Trekkers can witness the local traditional farm life and cultures, and the only tough bit is on first day. A big climb of few hours to Chomrong and towards MBC, rest of the walk is moderate and average.
As well a touch of slight altitude after Deurali and Machhapuchare Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp.

Is this trek difficult, and do we get high altitude sickness?

This is one of the shortest adventure around the Himalayas, although it leads to steep climb. But at the end all will be rewarded with spectacular views in the comfort of a nice and cozy lodges.

The HAS or High Altitude Sickness is not a problem on this trek the highest is 4,130 m just for a day. The rest of the walk is losing altitude, and following the lower mid-hill path. Taking slow with enough rest in between the walks will overcome the difficulties of climbing uphill.
