The Best Times for Everest Base Camp Trekking are spring and autumn seasons. Where most days are clear and fine with sunny days, expect snowfall sometimes above 2,500 m high.

However, the best time is spring of March to May, when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom. Especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors, from tall trees to bushes. Springtime has longer sunny days but can get overcast in the late afternoon sometimes. Cold morning, evening, and nighttime with chances of snowfall. 

The next best time is autumn or fall, when most days are bright with sunshine for views and walks. Can get cloudy afternoon, with chances of snowfall sometimes around the high areas. But gets dark soon due to the autumn season, but an enjoyable time for Everest Base Camp Treks.

This wonderful adventure begins with a sweeping short flight to Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport. From Lukla, the walk follows through impressive Sherpa villages adorned with Buddhist monuments of prayer walls. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park.
Listed in World Heritage Sites, the name Sagarmatha is for Everest in Nepal, for the local Sherpa is Chomolungma.

Then heading towards higher terrains to Namche Bazaar, the capital of Khumbu Sherpa, an exciting place to be. A perfect location and altitude to spend an extra day for acclimatization before heading to higher ground.

Namche Bazaar offers various facilities from well-stocked shops, stores, banks, and ATMs, including nice restaurants, hotels, and lodges.
From Namche Bazaar on the scenic trail with views of Mt. Everest, Ama-Dablam, and an array of snow-capped peaks. Then the trail leads to the high picturesque Tengboche and the colorful impressive monastery, a lovely spot. Surrounded by towering snow mountains with views of Mt. Everest, amidst a beautiful forest of rhododendrons and pines. 

The adventure continues heading higher above the tree lines towards barren high country to Dingboche and Lobuche. Slowly the walk heads closer to reach the main highlights of the journey at Everest Base Camp. 

On reaching the Everest base camp, enjoy the dramatic scenery enclosed by the towering peaks of Nuptse and Lhotse. Includes views of massif Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers, next part of the adventure takes you to the top of Kalapathar. Where you can enjoy fantastic views of surrounding towering peaks with close looks of Mt. Everest. 

After a glorious exciting moment, return journey back to Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla. For the last overnight around the high Khumbu and Everest, the next morning a scenic short flight brings you to Kathmandu. Then completes the most fabulous adventures to Everest base camp & Kalapathar Trekking.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kathmandu / Nepal international airport received by our staff and guide. Get transferred to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city, after checking in lovely rooms. Having time to get refreshed then join with other members for briefing, provided by our guide. The briefing includes information of the hotels, Kathmandu city tour and details on trekking. Evening a warm welcome dinner in a nice authentic Nepali Restaurants with cultural programs along with dinner.

A leisure morning having breakfast our city and cultural guide picks you for an exciting sightseeing tour. The tour of Kathmandu and Nepal’s Heritage Sites of cultural and historical interest. Rest of the afternoon preparation for
Everest base camp & Kalapathar Trekking.

As time for flight to Lukla transfer to Kathmandu domestic air terminal for panoramic short flight to Lukla. Flying in a small aircraft Dornier, Twin Otter or similar. On flight enjoy panorama of Himalayan peaks with Mt. Everest, and then landing at Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport. Our trekking staff and porters, receives you, and then start the trek to Phakding for overnight stop. The walk follows through several wonderful villages with fabulous scenery of hills and valleys, then reach Phakding village for night halt.

From Phakding village towards Namche Bazaar via Sagarmatha National Park.
Morning walk leads on pleasant trail with few short down and ups crossing bridges to reach Monjo. The walk continues to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. As walk leads to cross another bridge to Jorsalle for lunch stop before the climb to Namche Bazaar. Afternoon walks along the river bank amidst forest of tall rhododendrons and pines trees. A short climb to the last bridge, and then uphill all the way to Namche Bazaar. At Namche check into nice lodge with views of Kongde peaks. Namche Bazaar for two over nights, a prosperous trading town and a large town-village, the hub of Khumbu. Where once a week on Saturday a busy colorful market head, hence the name Namche Bazaar.

At Namche Bazaar spend extra day for acclimatization, morning take a short hike up to the park museum. An interesting place to gather information on mountaineering, flora, fauna and Sherpa cultures. From this scenic spot enjoy grand vista of Mt. Everest, Ama-Dablam with series of adjoining snow peaks.

On rest day another options for hike to Everest View Hotel for beautiful views of snow mountains and Everest. A climb of few hours to an old Syangboche airstrip and then gradual up to Everest View Hotel. Listed as world’s highest hotel at above 3,900 m high.

After rest with acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, morning starts with short climb, and then on winding scenic trail. Facing views of Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Tharmasarku with Kongde peaks. After few hours downhill to Imjatse River to reach Phunki-Tenga for refreshing lunch stop.

After lunch, climb through lovely forest to Tengboche Monastery, a scenic spot with views of Ama-Dablam, and Mt. Everest. As well a holy spot with an impressive monastery. After checking into the lodge, enjoy interesting tour of the
monastery of great cultural interest. Along with the panorama of Everest and range of giant peaks that surrounds the Tengboche and the monastery.

Enjoy the morning panorama of the Himalayan peaks, and the follow the downhill pat through beautiful birch-rhododendron and pines forest. As walk continues down to cross a bridge, then gradual climb to Pangboche village.
From Pangboche the tree lines fades for short rhododendron and juniper bushes. The trail follows towards and exposed areas with close views of Mt. Ama Dablam with lunch in between. The walk leads to cross a small bridge with an hour climb to enter Imjatse Valley at Dingboche for two overnights. A beautiful location at the bottom of staggering Ama Dablam with views of famous Island Peak.

Another rest day at Dingboche, before reaching our highlight at Everest Base Camp. Dingboche a lovely settlement with many good lodges, after breakfast enjoy a few hours hike to Nakarjung ridge top. Offers tremendous views of surrounding giant snow mountains with Ama Dablam, Island peak, Lhotse, and Nuptse. The views extend as far as Mt. Makalu towards east, rest of the day after lunch rest and marvel the lovely scenery.

From Dingboche, morning walk leads to short steep climb and then on gradual up to Thugla. Where the trail of Pheriche and Dingboche joins towards Lobuche and Everest Base Camp. At Thugla, for lunch stop, afternoon a steep climb to the top of Thugla ridge. Then on slow winding up to Lobuche for overnight stop, before heading to Everest base camp.

The trail today is quite tough, due to rise in altitude. But enjoyable walks facing with tremendous views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest.
After few hours of walks high above Khumbu glacier, then short down to Gorakshep. A small settlement on glacial valley with several lodges, located beneath Kalapathar and Mt. Pumori. After a short rest, the journey continues to Everest Base Camp. The trail leads over moraine of rocks and ice to reach
Everest Base Camp our highlight destination. Enjoy the great dramatic scenery similar to arctic landscapes of ice, snow and glaciers. Standing beneath towering
Lhotse, Nuptse and Everest with massif Khumbu Ice Fall. After enjoying splendid moment, return to Gorakshep for overnight stop, after completing the major high light of the adventures.

Early morning climb leads to steep uphill to Kalapathar for fantastic close views of Mt. Everest. Includes towering surrounding peaks within near distance for
Mt. Pumori. After a refreshing morning adventure head down to Gorakshep for breakfast, then for return journey to Lukla. From Gorakshep walk down to Lobuche and further downhill to Thugla. At Thugla our route diverts south towards Pheriche valley for lunch stop. Pheriche a large settlement with number of good lodges like in Dingboche with HRA Post (Himalayan Rescue Association).
After lunch down to the river and up to a small ridge, then descending towards Pangboche Village for overnight stop.

Leaving Pangboche Village with close grand views of Ama Dablam, the down to cross the bridge. As climb leads back into dense vegetation and tall trees, after an hour or more walk up. Then reaching the beautiful spot at Tengboche and the impressive Monastery. After a short break with superb panorama of surrounding towering peaks. The trail follows down to Phunki Tenga, after the bridge a steep climb for an hour to reach Shanasha a small village. From here on easy gradual winding trail to Namche Bazaar for overnight halt.

After a nice refreshing stop for overnight in Namche Bazaar, enjoy the last day trek of the adventures. Which is quite a long hours walk to Lukla, the walk follows down to Dudh Kisi River Valley. As walk leads on the river bank to Jorsalle, crossing the bridge with short climb to Sagarmatha National Park. From here walk to Monjo village, and then down to cross a long suspension bridge.
The walk gets easier with few short down and ups to Phakding for lunch stop, afternoon walk on winding path. Enjoy the last final climb of less than an hour to reach Lukla for overnight stop.

As time for the flight to Kathmandu, a short walk to Lukla Tenzing and Hillary Airport. After checking in then board in a small aircraft for sweeping short scenic flight to Kathmandu. As the plane land at Katmandu transfer back to your hotels, rest of the day at leisure for individual activities.

In Kathmandu a spare/ extra day, in case of flight delay in Lukla due to bad weather conditions. On this free day, can book for another sightseeing tour around Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. Worth a visit to enjoy tour around the World Heritage Sites. Rest of the day for leisure activities and shopping souvenir of Nepal.

Last day in Kathmandu and in Nepal, after a great and wonderful experience on Everest Base Camp & Kalapathar Trekking. As time for your international flight transfer to Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport. Then bidding farewell to guide, staff and the Nepal Himalayas. As you step into air terminal for homeward bound or to respective countries.

FAQs

How difficult is Everest Base Camp trek?

Actually it not that tough and difficult walk to Everest base camp, as it may looks the only hard bit is the climb on high altitude which can make you breathless.
As walk progress one can take it slowly, with much short rest from being breathless. Taking it slow and steady walks will reach you to Everest base camp.

Is Everest Base Camp mostly trekked?

Everest Base Camp, is one of the most popular trek around the Himalayas, gets more than thousand visitors each seasons. From March to May and September to November. As well in winter times of Christmas and New Year during December and January.

What happens if someone is sick on trek?

The only problem one can get is altitude sickness or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Normally, trekkers are physical fit and the itinerary chosen has enough rest days to cope with acclimatization. For instance, in case some get very sick and cannot continue the walk to base camp, head back to lower altitude to reach Lukla. Then take a flight to Kathmandu, the other means of fastest transport the patient needs to be evacuated using helicopter services. On emergency situations the sick person has to borne all the expenses, to be claimed from your medical insurance.

What religion and culture the Sherpa follows?

Around Khumbu region all native Sherpa the highlander of Everest follows Tibetan Buddhism which you can notice along the walk encountering prayer monuments. Such as Buddhist Stupa, monasteries nearly in every village with prayer walls along the path. 

Is there facilities to charge electronic gadgets?

Yes, every village and overnight lodge does have facilities with electricity run by hydro or solar power. It can charge cell phones, camera batteries, and laptops.
On paying extra for charging the gadgets, every lodge has a different rate on an hourly basis. Higher above from Namche Bazaar onward the cost comes slightly higher than lower areas.

What to expect on the trek to Everest base camp?

Exciting scenery of rolling green hills and high white snow-capped peaks with views of Mt. Everest, almost throughout the walk. Besides marvelous views of landscapes and mountains, a local impressive culture of Buddhism and walking into cool serene rhododendron, pines, and fir trees woodland till Tengboche Monastery.

In higher areas, tree lines drop and vegetation gets sparse with dwarf rhododendron and juniper bushes as you get closer to Mountain wilderness with remorseless fields of ice and glaciers at base camp.
